If you're having trouble using MultiFinder on a 1 MB Mac, or just want to save yourself a couple hundred K when using System 7.0, just 'Quit' the Finder!
The Finder doesn't have a 'Quit' command, but QuitFinder Fkey will act just like it.
First, install QuitFinder Fkey in your system with Fkey Manager, SuitCase™ II or any similar utility.
To use QuitFinder Fkey:
1. Open any application or desk accessory
2. Switch to the Finder,
3. Press command-shit-0 (zero) [or command-shift together with the
FKEY ID# you've chosen].
The disk and Trash icons will vanish. Check under the MultiFinder Menu — the Finder is not running!
Normally, the Finder uses 160k (327K under System 7.0), without the Finder you'll need another method for opening applications. MasterFinder (DA), HandOff II (cdev) , MultiMaster (cdev), OnCue (cdev) will do the job, I would recommend using Disktop (DA) or DiskTools (DA) because they have all of the Finder's commands and a whole lot more.
Quitting all applications and DA's automatically re-launches the Finder.
QuitFinder can also be used to quit any currently open application or DA; it then acts in the same way command-Q (Quit) would, exiting you to the next available application or re-lauching the Finder; it will NOT, how- ever, allow you save your work, so PLEASE be careful!
